This familiar mug appeared everywhere during the 30s and 40s particularly as a stock player for Warner Bros. in their more standard college musicals, comedies and crime yarns, playing both sides of the fence - detectives and thugs - with equal ease. He was born Joseph Sauers in Guelph, Canada on August 29, 1906 and eventually moved to California to pursue a film career.

Born Joseph Louis De Grace, son of Lange De Grace and Ellen Comeau in Bathurst, New Brunswick. His brother, Sam De Grasse , was also born in Bathurst, on 12 June 1875. His great-grandfather Antoine DeGrace (married Angelique Aché) was born Antoni Pedro Gras in Palma, Majorca, Spain. There has always been a link between Count Paul De Grasse and this De Grace family.

Dave Foley dropped out of an alternative high school to do stand-up comedy. He met Kevin McDonald at an improv class and, while employed as movie ushers, they began working as a comedy team. In 1984 they merged with another team to form "The Kids in the Hall".
