Conrad Veidt attended the Sophiengymnasium (secondary school) in the Schoeneberg district of Berlin, and graduated without a diploma in 1912, last in his class of 13. During her childhood she changed schools every year, as her mother had to move to other towns because of her acting commitments. She first appeared in front of the camera in an advertising spot as a child, then she played in her first movie when she was 9 years old. She soon started playing theater, at 14 she played Juliet in "Romeo and Juliet" in Berlin.
